Tips for Hanging a Ceiling Light Fixture

Here Are Some Tips For Hanging Ceiling Lights!

Most homeowners are constantly finding ways to beautify their home. In an effort to make their home look more appealing, some would tackle home improvement projects. Others would invest in new furniture. However, most homeowners tend to overlook their lighting fixtures.

Whether you live in a new or a newly-built home, new lighting fixtures can update the look and ambiance of a room. It can transform a drab room into a dazzling one. If you are considering hanging a ceiling lighting fixture in your home, we urge you to keep reading. Use these tips to hang lights safely and securely.

Turn off the power

Before you begin, you need to make sure that the power is switched off at the main circuit box. Also, we recommend covering the switch with tape to prevent anyone from turning it on while you’re installing the light fixture.

Examine the junction box

Chandeliers radiate elegance. They make any room feel more luxurious. These chandeliers are quite heavy. As such, you need to make sure that the junction box is sturdy enough to support the weight of your lighting fixture. This is especially important if your new lighting weighs more than your existing lighting.

Get a mountain bracket

Most light fixtures come with a mountain bracket. But there are some cases when the mountain bracket supplied with your light fixture isn’t compatible with your junction box. To avoid the hassle of going back and forth to the hardware, be sure to check your mountain junction and get one that would work well with it.

Figure out the sweet spot when hanging light fixtures

Just as you do when you hang art, you need to consider the right height for hanging a light fixture. A good rule of thumb is to keep at least 7 feet of clearance from the bottom of the lighting to the floor. Remember, you, your family, and guests will be walking in the room. The last thing you want is for anyone to hit their head as they walk across the room.

For fixtures that are supposed to be installed over a kitchen table or a kitchen island, the fixture should hang between 28 and 36 inches from the bottom of the lighting fixture to the tabletop. It should hang low enough so as to bring enough light to the surface.

Pre-assemble parts

Some lights are quite heavy, and holding it up for a few minutes during installation can make your arm hurt. To prevent aching arms and save time, we recommend pre-assembling the lights before you climb the ladder.
